I tried ordering a half a pig from Mud Lake farm this winter. I had never used this farm before or tried this amount of meat (like getting half of something). However, it was a wonderful experience. The people at Mud Lake were very helpful since I had no clue what I was doing. They helped me with the order form and talked to me about the pig I would be getting (I got the smallest one because I was worried I wouldn't know what to do with all that meat). Turns out that I got good at making pork chops. And the other cuts were easy to use too. Of course the sausage, etc was not hard to figure out. I determined that we used the pork from the farm 2-3 times a month, and I still have probably enough to get through the summer. Next time, I'll order a bigger pig and we'll proably eat pork more often. It makes me feel good to know that I'm feeding my family meat that was raised humanely and in a manner that is healthy for the planet. Now I have to figure out where to buy locally grown beef.
