black propolis

By: Matthew Piltingsrud    (May 25, 2010)

I've learned there are three different grades of propolis: green, brown and black. Green is considered the best, followed by brown and then black. I just received my propolis from this farm, and it's pitch black.

We do not sell Brazilian green propolis (which actually has 12 grades itself) nor did we advertise that we sell a particular grade or color of propolis as it changes slightly depending upon the locale of the hives that we collect from - our propolis is generally red/brown/black in this region. Brazil has the richest plant life diversity in the world including eucalyptus which is why it is thought to be of the highest quality - we are not located in Brazil nor do we import from Brazil at this time. Likewise, we do not sell our propolis at Brazilian Green Propolis prices. We have had very good response from customers who use both our chunk propolis and propolis tinctures for overall improved immune systems and health benefits!

Incidentally, we have always provided a picture on this LocalHarvest site (that you can even magnify to a very large degree) that shows the customer exactly what our propolis looks like - and, as a customer, I would not expect anything different. Perhaps, if you were as shocked to receive our dark propolis as you sound like you are - you should have contacted us with any questions or concerns. Have a great day!
