Western Branch's Best Secret

By: Anna Beasley    (Jul 17, 2011)

I am so happy to have found Clarke Farm. I was looking to find a CSA that was closer than Norfolk and stumbled upon Clarke Farm. It's a beautiful farm on the banks of the Western Branch of the Elizabeth River in northern Chesapeake. The staff at the farm stand are wonderful! The CSA is more than generous. The nearly monthly classes on food preservation are very informative and held in a screened picnic shelter on the river. No matter how hot it is, the breeze off the water keeps us cool in class. My kids love seeing the peacocks, chickens, and goats in their enclosures. Because you cannot see it from the road, I had gone past the turn off for years. If I had known before what great people and great food were down the lane I wouldn't have waited so long. This hidden treasure in our community has been a secret too long and I am constantly singing their praises.
