A Delicious and Fun way to Eat in Portland!
By: Charlie Ahlquist (Feb 16, 2012)
I had a great experience participating in a CSA through the Portland Grower's Alliance this last fall. The fruits, vegetables, and occasional surprises (like local honey) were consistently fresh and flavorful. I really enjoyed the friendliness of the staff. I found it to be an affordable way to get connected to local agriculture, and the weekly email heads-up of what we could expect in our box was super!
Participating in this CSA encouraged me to become far more creative and interested in food preparation, and it exposed me to lots of delicious crops that I had never seen at the store before. I will admit, the number of beets was initially daunting, and once I came up with some other great ways to prepare them (pickling, beet cake, borscht, etc.) I found them to be a great bounty. I'm really looking forward to participating again!
I ate lots of fresh berries, root vegetables, and fresh herbs this last fall, and this CSA was the reason.
