Great first-time experience with a CSA
By: Beth Peyton (Feb 6, 2013)
My favorite thing about being involved with a CSA was the opportunity, and sometimes challenge, of enjoying all the produce that was available as it became available. I cook, so it was fun to experiment with things I'd never cooked before, including things I didn't think I liked. Beets. Beet greens in salads, grated beets in salads (with goat cheese!) was new for me. I tried different things with Swiss Chard than I'd done before, and perhaps my favorites were the peas and beans. The only thing better than shelling peas under the shade of the hemlock in my back yard was eating them. Frizzled cabbage, colcannon, cole slaw and sauerkraut, corn on the cob, sweet corn salsa, corn pudding. Tomatoes like candy. Beans roasted on the grill with a bit of olive oil and vinegar. Yum.
