Reviews for: Misera's Organic Farm

Friendly Farm Food Family!
By: John Leimgruber    (May 5, 2008)

I first heard of Misera's farm through Pittsburgh's "Laptop Butcher Shop". My wife and I picked up a few of their pastured chickens which are nicely bagged and tagged. Most of the available birds weighed roughly between 5-8 lbs. We roasted one whole over vegetables and it made a delicious meal when my in-laws came to visit.

This spring I became more interested in local food producers (after reading Michael Pollan's "The Omnivore's Dilemma" and Joel Salatin's "You Can Farm"). I called up The Misera's and they were happy to have us come visit one Saturday morning. Steve showed us around the grounds and even demo his egg washing machine!

The farm had a well maintained appearance and no off odors at all. The egg chickens were happily doing their thing scratching around and scurrying about the grass. The cows were enjoying some hay and even calmly walked up to the fence to get a better look at us! I was most impressed with the pasture that the Misera's use for pasturing their meat chickens. It was lush and green with a variety of grasses and clover.

We took home some beef products this time in addition to a lot of jumbo eggs and a few meat chickens. The french toast, lemon poppyseed cupcakes, and omelettes that we made with the eggs all had a rich yellow/orange color and tasted great. We plan on getting together enough of our friends to place an order for a side of beef soon too.

Great food products, friendly farm family, and less than an hour away from downtown Pittsburgh!
