Appeal to potential Erie subscribers
By:    (Feb 1, 2010)

Over the past two years, we have been trying to build up enough subscribers from the Erie area to entice Mick and Kay to make a drop-off in Erie. Currently, one of our group (of about 20) makes the trip to Ashtabula each week to pick up produce for everyone.

Their CSA is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy fresh, healthy, and gorgeous produce, including a large variety of vegetables, fruits, popcorn, cornmeal, and pecans. The quantity and value of the bags of produce that they deliver each week is outstanding, and could not be purchased independently at any grocery store in Erie. And the anticipation of wondering what would fill the bag each week is such fun!

Join us and support our local small farmers! Contact Mick at and ask about making the Erie delivery!

I'm going to miss those Wednesday pick-ups
By: Christa Turnbull    (Sep 29, 2009)

This was our first CSA experience and we were very pleased. The vegetables, etc. were first rate and I loved making all-vegetable meals from the produce we picked up on Wednesdays. Nothing can compare to a meal of fresh sweet corn on the cob and tomato salad with fresh mozzarella and basil. Oh, and in the spring, a sandwich of fresh radishes sliced on a good piece of sourdough rye with some butter....not available at any price. Forget those warnings you hear from some people about learning how to eat lots of kale when you sign up for a CSA. We experienced a fabulous variety of vegetables and fruit. The ratatouille I made from the eggplant and zucchini and tomatoes and garlic was so good the first time I was thrilled to make it again. And the yellow watermelon? - nothing to match it in the store. Everything was table ready. No waiting for something to ripen and develop flavor. We appreciated the opportunity to purchase the half share for the smaller family. Although next summer I will think hard about just going ahead with the full share because everything is so good. I looked forward to Wednesdays at Lakewood Public Library and discovering what would be in the canvas bag. Can't wait to see what the extra autumn goodies will be.

My second year...I'm in love!!
By: Leslie Cla    (Aug 30, 2009)

Mick and Kay Prochko are an incredible couple with incredible produce and I now look forward to getting up early Saturday mornings in the summer to get my farm surprises for the week! A highlight of my summer is the annual visit to their farm where I never fail to learn something new and interesting. This year they had in depth canning demonstrations and all kinds of educational handouts and booklets. Their son Steve answers all of our many questions and seems to know everything there is to know about farming! There are even special children's tours and activities. (I admit to tagging along on one of those as well).

Delicious vegetables every week and the great recipes that Kay sends out on their newsletter make this CSA very special. But the most special to me are the Prochko's themselves...they always have a smile for every single customer, remember your likes and dislikes, and are just a joy to be around. I have eaten vegetables I never even knew existed and am loving every minute of it. Mick did a great job teaching me how to tell a good ear of corn without peeling back the husks :)

I wholeheartedly recommend their CSA without reservation!!
