I had never been part of a CSA before this year - but I have/had been to many farmers markets and knew of friends and family who had CSA shares - but they typically lived in cities, where fresh produce was more difficult to come by. Not until recently did I decide I really wanted to eat really only organic food and try to have the most freshest of foods as well. You can find lots of organic foods in the super market or groceries store, however, these foods are typically already a week old having lost most of their vital nutrients! So this past 2013 year my mother and I had our very first CSA share - which was with Lamb's Quarters Organic Farm. I actually found this farm through this very site and I chose them because most importantly they are organic and also they are local - meaning FRESH! Sandy and Drew are wonderful people and farmers. Just spending a few hours to see their entire farm was a joy. They really know what they are doing and have lots of knowledge not only with plants but also their farm animals. Although there were some crop failures do to weather I really enjoyed the produce that I did receive. I also really enjoy the way the CSA is set up. Instead of receiving mystery baskets each week you can choose what you want, and how much. A lot more ideal for planning meals and etc. Overall a very good first experience.
