You'll NEVER find a better CSA!

There is not enough space here to relay just how amazing and wonderful Vicki, Tom and the rest of the Zilke Vegetable Farm crew are. PROFESSIONAL & INVOLVED - The weekly email detailing what is in your box is thorough, with colorful photos and recipe ideas. It also has Tom's section - "View From the Tractor Seat" - where he lets you know all about the challenges, surprises and revelations of planting/growing/harvesting crops. Tom and Vicki are extremely knowledgeable and resourceful too. Their farm stand/fields are not just a business but also a sort of community outreach HQ. The amount of time they spend with the public - school kids, U of M ag-researches, intercity kids, & nosey CSA members, like us, is incredible! DIVERSE & BOUNTIFUL - The Zilke's offer you a great selection each week, with extras also thrown in. They offer traditional veggies, grains, salads, squash, herbs, even honey(!) - sometimes adding non-mainstream crops (ground cherries, more rare chiles, etc.) and/or fruit too! If you're in love with a crop that others in the CSA are not you can swap stuff out of your box & trade with other members or then the Zilke's often simply give you all their extra of that item for that week (for us, we stocked up on okra & various chiles). SHARING & KIND - The Zilke's embody all the goodness that you want in your fresh farmed produce! They adopt shelter kitties for their farm stand, donate food profusely to the Food Gatherers & participate in Growing Hope activies (both organizations are non-profits), and are some of the nicest, most giving people you'll ever meet. They work to accomodate you and your needs and always get back to your emails/calls right away. At the final end of the season harvest this year, we were allowed to not just pick the remaining veg still on the plants but we could actually take the enitre plants out of the ground, if we wanted to replant them at home! We made out like bandits - healthy bandits! ;o) THANK YOU! - We are going to be members of this CSA forever and can't stop telling our friends and family about how they need to join this CSA because all others pale in comparison!
Wouldn't go anywhere else!

We are now entering our third year with the Zilke Vegetable Farm CSA and there has been no hesitation on each renewal. The Zilke's take great pride and care in their work and it shows in the produce we receive each week. In addition to the great vegetables, Tom and Vicki provide the personal touch that makes it even more special. They encourage visits to the farm and fields so that you can "see" where your food is coming from and they are always happy to answer questions or offer up receipe ideas. We even receive a weekly newsletter that keeps us up to date on the farm activities and what we can expect in our share each week. We would highly recommend this CSA!
WOW! Great Food

My partner and I signed up for a 1/2 share with Zilke's CSA last year and we loved it. We believe in going local for as much food as we can. This CSA had great results in a tough growing year.
We loved that we could drop by our farmers market to pick up our share - this was incredibly convenient. We loved the food - greens, beans, potatos, incredible tomatos, amazing sweet corn, popcorn and honey. I could go on and on but we felt we got a great deal on some of the very best food possible.
We also love that Tom and Vicki are very hands on with everything. We saw one of them once a week and they are more than willing to share ideas for cooking and growing.
Fantastic local farm

My family has been part of several community farms, and this year we joined Zilke Vegetable Farm, since it is very close to home. Very close to the city of Milan, the farm is very accessible, and during pick-up times, we were welcome to bring our children to the farm and allow them to experience the farm, including venturing into the field and doing some harvesting on their own. This was a wonderful experience for the family, and added to the value we received from the farm. Tom and Vicki are warm and very welcoming of visitors, and the children took to them and begged to visit. The food selection was excellent, and we found that it was not too difficult to adjust menus to cook throughout the harvest season using a vast majority of foods we received as part of our share. In our experience, the value offered was superior to other options, particularly when location was factored in (as we live very close). Broccoli and beets were particularly adored by the family this year, and we got excellent portions of both. The selection of other fruits and vegetables was quite nice, and we found ourselves eating much more freshly than we would have otherwise, and likely for less expense. Compared to prior community farm experience, I think my family would rate Zilke Vegetable Farm the best we have tried -- for experience, quality of produce, convenience, and just plain fun. Definitely worth a look, especially if you are nearby and can spend a little time on site.
Positive experiences with the Zilke Vegetable Farm

The Zilke Vegetable Farm is a new project by Tom and Vicky Zilke that has brought a bounty of colorful produce to our Downtown Ypsilanti Farmers' Market. As the manager of this market, I greatly appreciated being able to welcome a new grower and his family to sell their home grown goods in our downtown region. The mission of our market is to help to bring better access to healthy foods to our community. The Zilkes' help to do this in an extraordinary way with their thoughtfully grown produce that includes delicious broccoli, peppers, tomatoes and much more. They continually try to think outside of the box in order to reach their customers, creatively constructing things like pre-packed quart containers of all produce needed for making salsa.
I was fortunate to be able to visit the Zilke Vegetable Farm and was impressed with the organized fields, the maintained vegetables, and the future vision of growing their capacity that Tom and Vicky both shared with me. The Zilkes' are helping our community fill the need for new farmers that pay careful attention to the way their food is grown.
