John Caveny (and his wonderful wife) are an amazing asset to the Champaign/Urbana area. I recently had the opportunity to go visit their farm and was blown away by the knowledge and integrity they apply to raising their animals responsibly and as sustainably as possible. In a time where "know your farmer" is becoming increasingly important to people the Cavney's sure are people to know! I'm grateful for the time they spent in answering my questions as well as the hospitality and warmth they extended to me. The icing on the cake is, of course, that the turkey is delicious! (get one for yourself and try the Honey Reisling recipe on their website! Speaking of which: their website is FULL of great resources and information- check it out!

I was recently at a dinner where a Bourbon Red Heritage Turkey from Caveny Farm was served. The response was great! My friends and I were surprised by the difference the rich, flavorful meat tasted, as opposed to what we've come to believe the bland, grocery store turkey to taste like. John Caveny prepared the turkey and spoke about his farm. He also answered numerous questions about heritage turkeys. I would recommend tasting their turkey.
