Perennial. OP Heirloom. Victoria has been around since 1837, and originated in England. It is reliable, productive, and long lived. It has a gourmet, winey/tart flavor that complements strawberries just perfectly. We can up dozens of jars of strawberry/rhubarb jam and syrup from our Victoria patch every year. It also freezes well, so you can have rhubarb cake in January! These plants are grown from seed - they are not divisions. We never had much success when we purchased and planted divisions, so we started growing rhubarb from seed and planting out plants from pots. We have excellent success getting the plants established this way. The plants are small, however, and should not be harvested from until the second year. By the third year the plants will be huge if properly cared for (manure and mulch!) Folks seem to want their rhubarb red, although we have never noted a taste difference between red and green. We grow these plants from seed, and the color is variable. While we try to select for red, some plants will be mostly green.
Our plants are sustainably raised in our own potting mix. We use only organic fertilizers and sprays if needed. We have been growing and selling plants since 1997.
Our rhubarb plants are shipped in individual 3" deep pots. They are usually 4 to 8 inches tall and are ready to be planted out in your garden.
We are now closed for the 2014 season. Thank you to all of our wonderful customers! We will be back in January, 2015.
We produce all of our own seed, unlike most seed sellers. We never purchase bulk seeds and repackage them. You can be sure that you are getting top quality, healthy, and vigorous seeds from us, and that they were produced by us on our small farm in healthy soil.
We are licensed by the State of Missouri Department of Agriculture to sell plants (license #1931) and seed (license #149045) produced by us. We exceed the Federal minimum germination standards and post our germination test results with each variety
