At River Oaks Farm and Studio, we raise sheep for wool, meat, and breeding stock. We started with hardy little Shetland sheep in 2001 and added Bluefaced Leicester sheep in 2006. We use crossbred ewes called Mules to produce grass fed market lambs. In addition to naturally raised lamb and fine, natural colored wool, we offer heritage crafts and fiber art including hand-spun yarn, hand-knit items, felted accessories, tanned sheepskins, wool comforters, and original artwork. Our animals are raised with plenty of love and affection. Most are tail wagging friendly. They have access to shelter at all times and they are given plenty of fresh air, sunshine. In addition to grass pasture, they are fed locally grown hay. We supplement with a small about of locally grown corn during the coldest days of the year and sometimes during lactation.
