Our Romney sheep have been chosen for their fleece quality. While the breed is known for coarser wool, great for making rugs or felted items, our sheep produce fine fleeces year after year.
The fleeces do change in color every year, so please order enough for your project as it is almost impossible to match the grays. 2 pounds is more than enough for a sweater with some left over for matching accessories.
We do not cover our sheep, so there is a small amount of vm (chaff) in it. While spinning, I find that most of it comes out.
We roll the roving into 4 or 8 ounce balls. This makes it easy to transport with your wheel. If you are interested in smaller quantities of a color, I will be more than happy to wind you off an ounce or two.
I learned to spin on Romney fleeces 20+ years ago and have always felt they are a fleece that can almost spin itself.
