At the New Albany Farmer's Market we carry local produce including Heirloom tomatoes, yellow squash, berries, potatoes, onions, garlic, kale, apples, beans, cucumbers, pickles, several types of pepper (from the mildest to the hottest), and much more. We grow our own produce or purchase it directly from local farmers to ensure the freshest and highest quality product.
Our veggies are as naturally grown as possible, but not organic. On our veggies like broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower we use seven dust, which is the mildest we can use to control the white moths that lay eggs on this type veggie and causes the small green worms. The other veggies are not sprayed. Our fruit is never sprayed after the bloom sets, and no chemical process is used as a preservative. That's why the shelf life is not that of the grocery stores.
We do wash our veggies before we sell them too. No pesticides or fertilizer is used on our lettuces, greens or herbs. We fertilize with rabbit and chicken poo.
Our corn is not the GMO variety, we use just plain ole corn seed and some heirloom varieties. People assume there is a lot of GMO activity in agriculture but it's just not true. Sweet corn has no GMO at all and most of the population eats sweet corn. Field corn generally isn't grown for human consumption it's mostly grown for Ethanol. (I read that it is showing up in our food sources though, and it is feed to most livestock) We use no GMO seed.
