Our farm sits on the western edge of Prince Edward County. Ten of our forty acres are bottomland that is tillable for vegetable production; the rest is rolling and forested. We are a husband and wife team growing a wide variety of vegetables, herbs, and flowers for local markets. We grow without the use of any pesticides, herbicides, or synthetic fertilizers. We use crop rotations to deter disease and pathogens, row covers to exclude pests and create appropriate microclimates, cover crops to protect against soil erosion, and green manures to improve soil fertility and structure. We irrigate from our well. We are called 'Sandyfoot Farm' for our sandy loam soils and location in the foothills of the Virginia Piedmont. (more...)
