Seed to Seed, Edible Garden Project

Seed to Seed, Edible Garden Project was born from the Vilas Visions Leadership Program, sponsored by the UW Extension of Vilas County.

LynnAnn Thomas and Debra Ketchum Jircik are graduates of the program and also are both passionate foodies and believe that everyone deserves fresh healthy diet, regardless of economic situation.

As one of their mentors, Will Allen of Growing Power, Milwaukee, believes, "If people can grow safe, healthy, affordable food, if they have access to land and clean water, this is trans formative on every level in a community. I believe we cannot have healthy communities without a healthy food system."

They have installed a pilot container veggie garden/farm at the M.J. Berner Foundation for Peace and Justice's "Many Ways of Peace" location in Eagle River. Many, many pounds of vegetables are delivered to the Vilas County Food pantry as well as feeding the attendees at the Peace Center's gatherings and functions.

Deb and LynnAnn are both avid container veggie gardeners and hope to teach others, by example, to learn to grow healthy food through organic and sustainable methods, in the short seasoned Northwoods of Wisconsin.
