Shady Lane Farm is located in Hanover County, VA on 55 beautiful acres comprised of open pastures, woods and streams. All our animals are cared for in a healthy environment allowing them to enjoy sunshine, grass, fresh wholesome grains while respecting and protecting the land.
We are proud to have an outstanding flock of birds, including some very rare breeds of chickens, including heritage breeds. The breeds we care for are Welsummers, Barred Olive Eggers (yes, they produce and olive colored egg!), Black Copper Marans, Lavender Orpingtons, Partridge Rocks, Silver Penciled rocks, Buff Bantam Brahmas, and Wheaten Ameraucanas. We took great care in selecting our stock, to keep the birds as genetically diverse as possible, ensuring a healthy flock and great hatches. Every year we strive to improve our birds, and choose the best birds for not only conforming to the breed standard, but also for their ability to lay, size of eggs, temperament, and hardiness. Many of the breeds we raise are excellent heritage dual-purpose breeds. We work hard to make sure our birds remain healthy and happy, our birds are even sung to!
SLF offers fresh eggs for the table year round, hatching eggs from March through August, and chicks March through July. We will also be offering free-range pastured chicken starting in June of 2012, as well as shipping of hatching chicken eggs.
