Shady Side Farm

Shady Side Farm is owned and operated by a family that values sustainability. We farm biologically, paying careful attention to the soil and its health. We believe the saying: Healthy soil, healthy plants, healthy people.

Since 2010, our crops have been certified organic through Global Organic Alliance. We raise several type of beans, including some heirloom varieties.

Our sheep flock consists of about 30 Suffolk ewes and 80 Polypay ewes. The wool from our sheep is processed at a Michigan mill, and we sell it as yarn, roving for spinning, bedding, and socks. We also sell lambs for 4H and for meat.

We recently added a small herd of Belted Galloway cows, which will eventually provide our customers with certified organic beef.

I love the wool socks that I have purchased from Shady Side Farm. It is good to know the wool that kept the sheep warm last year is keeping feet warm this year. Ellyn Jackson
