At St. Brigid's Gate Farm, our animals are pasture-raised. The only feed we give are morning and evening treats, which keep the animals coming into the barnyard so that we can count them and make sure they are all OK. In the winter and when the summer heat is high, we set out hay if the grass isn't doing well. The poultry get a bit more grain in the winter due to the reduction in the number of bugs available for them to eat.
At this time, we have 2 Buff Orpingtons laying hens, 5 dozen Barred Rocks laying hens, too many roosters from the last batch of chicks, 200 broiler chicks, 6 Regal Red turkeys (heritage breed), 6 Harvest Gold turkeys (cross between Regal Red and Black Spanish heritage breeds), 2 Black Spanish cross turkeys, 3 white broad-breasted turkeys, 95 turkey poults, 8 head of Irish Dexter cattle, hereford-cross calves (for beef - SOLD!), 8 goats, 3 dozen sheep (some look like lambing will start in about a month), 3 horses, 2 dogs, and 6 barn cats.
Please call or email if you would like to schedule a tour of the farm. Since we homeschool, there's usually someone home, but occasionally our off-farm activities take everyone away at the same time.
Currently, we only have CSA contracts available for pasture-raised lamb and for pasture-raised goat. Cabrito is available upon request. Pre-orders for this and other special requests are welcomed. Please contact us for more information. PLEASE NOTE: OUR MEATS ARE HALAAL!
