Stinging nettle has a wide variety of uses in herbal medicine. Cooking, crushing, chopping or drying disables the stinging hairs. The fresh young leaves are edible, tasty and high in nutrients The dried leaves and flowers may be used to make a tea. The stems contain a fiber product which can be used like linen. You DO NOT want to plant this herb near where any children play. (Some folks plant it under their windows to deter invaders!) Nettle spreads so readily that you might want to consider keeping it in a pot or raised bed.
PLEASE NOTE: The plant you will receive has been propagated by the division of established plants. Rootstock may not have top growth yet , or may have been cut back before shipping so that the plants will ship well and you will not be severely "stung" unpacking them. (It is recommended that you wear gloves, when handling this plant, regardless.) Do not expect to see more than 2" of top growth on your plant when it arrives, however, do expect the root system to be well established and these plants will grow quickly, given sunshine, water and room. (If you are local you may purchase plants with top growth at the farm.)
