Stoneoven Bakery

The Stoneoven Bakery is located 40 minutes south of Alpena or 20 north of Oscoda. Our beautiful natural surroundings inspired us to create an ecologically friendly method of baking that did not have a harmful impact on the environment. We use only fallen wood to heat our ovens.

The stone ovens were built by hand, using materials native to our area such as lumber, soil and clay.

Our specialty is authenic German Bread, for which we developed our own formulas. We use only organic ingredients in our breads and Gourmet Granolas. For our baking mixes and baked goods we use organic ingredients and as much local ingredients as we can get. Currently we use local honey ( in county), local maple syrup ( 80 miles), local fresh farm eggs ( in county), Traverse City dried cherries. Some of our flours come from Michigan as well.

We sell our bread at several local Farmer's Markets as well as at our bakery. To further promote local agritourism and local eating we just founded the Alcona Food Trail Association, which brings together local producers and customers.

Tough not a bakery product, we are plannig to start a line of fermented foods and pickles made from local produce.
