If you have ever eaten black walnut ice cream, or tasted them baked in banana bread or brownies, you know what a distinctively delicious nut the Black Walnut is!
Long neglected in favor of commercial nut crops like the English Walnut, the native nuts seem to be making a comeback. Our farm is blessed with many acres of Black Walnut trees, thanks no doubt to the industrious squirrels who have planted them over the years. Now we have LOTS of both squirrels and nuts!
These Black Walnuts are hulled and dried, but still in the shell. Stored cool and dry, they are good for years!
Also available in the hull for medicinal uses.
We are looking for a commercial nutcracker that would allow us to offer shelled nuts for sale, but for now the gathering and hulling is all we can manage in the fall, as we are planting the garlic crop and tending our many animals.
Hope you will enjoy these nuts in your holiday confections!
