SQUASH Waltham Butternut
This improved strain of butternut squash produces larger yields with a richer flavor. Vigorous vines produce fruits that average 5 pounds. An excellent storage variety.
Sow: Seed outdoors in spring in a sunny location with well-tilled soil after all danger of frost has past. Sow seed 4 inches apart in rows spaced 6 to 8 feet apart, or sow seed on hills with 5 to 6 seeds per hill. For earliest harvest, start seeds indoors 3 to 4 weeks before the last frost date.

Thin seedlings when 2 inches tall to 1 to 2 feet apart in rows or to 3 seedlings per hill.
