Zapotec Tomato Seeds
With its beautiful fluted shape and meaty walls, the Zapotec is an ancestor to the similar Italian tomatoes (see our separate listing for Goldman's Italian American, an excellent example). We have grown it for many years, and included it in our original Heirloom Tomato Collection here on Local Harvest, considering it one of our top ten favorites.
Recently, we have become concerned that the Zapotec is getting lost in the forest of tomato varieties, which have vastly increased in recent years with the introduction of many newly-available heirlooms from Europe and Asia. It seems to have dropped out of many tomato-seed catalogs, so we want to urge you to try it! The Zapotec deserves to be a popular slicer tomato!
The Zapotec's large, fluted fruit makes an elegant presentation when sliced. Moreover, its thick, sturdy walls make it uniquely suitable for stuffing or grilling. The smallish vines will occupy little space in your garden, and although they are not enormously productive, you will treasure each lovely fruit!
Minimum 20-25 seeds per packet.
