Anna Apple Pie Jam
Anna apple trees thrive in our Southern California orchard. Successful fruit setting requires extended hours of cool temperatures, resulting in the bountiful harvest of beautiful red and green fruit and we enjoy each year. Wanting to enjoy the apples as long as possible, we make seasonal pies, can the applesauce and cook up our apple jams. Sometimes the temptation of apple pie just can't be overcome.
Digging into the archives, we located an old southern recipe that adds molasses, ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg to our apple jam, turning it into a delicacy that tastes like a rich apple pie. Perfect for those mornings where you really want comfort food, spread a teaspoon or two on a hearty slice of sourdough bread or whole grain muffin. In a pinch for dessert? Served warm or cold, this indulgent flavor makes a lovely topping on your vanilla ice cream or frozen yogurt. Your guests will think you spent hours in the kitchen.
