Ramona Rosemary Lemon Jelly
At the base of the San Jacinto Mountains, just south of Hemet proper, sits a small amphitheater nestled amongst large granite boulders. Since 1923, the official outdoor play of California, the Ramona Pageant, has been presented here and has delighted its audiences with the use of the natural terrain to tell the story of Ramona and Alessandro. Adapted from the novel by Helen Hunt Jackson, the play tells the story of a mixed-blood American Indian girl who was raised on a Mexican rancho. Against the wishes of her benefactor, Ramona falls in love with a full-blooded Indian and their tumultuous story unfolds amidst the sometimes chaotic changes taking place in 1850 California. Rosemary has long been an herb grown in native California gardens, and the citrusy addition of lemon to the mix gives our own Ramona Rosemary a unique California blend celebrating our unique cultural history.
