Lamb Pelt / Skin: Black Icelandic Jacob Cross
This is a pelt or processed skin from one of our lambs. Most of our sheep are purebred Icelandic or Jacob sheep, but a few Jacob ewes were bred by our Icelandic ram when he escaped for a day. This fleece is from a black ram lamb and is long and lush, reminiscent of a little bear rug. It is a good example of something halfway between double coated Icelandic wool and a soft, long and somewhat crimpy Jacob fleece. It seems to have a double coat, but the coats are more similar to each other in texture than Icelandic double coats often are.
It is the color of dark chocolate with lighter highlights from the sun. The fibers turn grayish as it gets closer to the skin.
The pelt is approximately 3 feet long and almost 2 feet wide. The longest wool is about 5 or 6 inches. It is missing wool on a spot about the area of a silver dollar and the price is discounted because of this.
All our fleeces have been processed to be washable by Bucks County Fur Products according to instructions which will be included with the purchase.
