Green Striped Cushaw Squash Seed HEIRLOOOM
115 days Cushaw squash are a North American original - this is one of the types of squash that the Native Americans depended on for food. These are large (10 + pounds) orange fleshed winter squash. You can do anything with a cushaw that you can with a pumpkin...I personally love these cut into chunks and roasted in the oven with garlic & onions They are also great cooked and mashed, then mixed with a bit of wild rice & egg and fried as "squash balls".
As a winter squash, it can be stored in cool, dry conditions for up to 6 months. Perfect for a root cellar or crawl space under a house, as long as it doesn't freeze.
Sow in hills, 3 seeds per hill, in loosened soil after danger of last frost date. These are hardy to Zone 9, and are very frost tender, so will need protection in the event of an unexpected late frost. These seed are fresh from a 10 pound cushaw squash peacefully grown in my back yard in rural North Carolina.
Minimum 14 seed, produced using organic methods in USDA Zone 7b, in beautiful rural North Carolina, for the 2014 growing season
