Romeldale Wool Roving, White
Wool from Phoenix Farm is hand sheared every Spring from holistic pasture-raised animals -- it is 100% natural! We raise our sheep without the use of hormones or unnecessary antibiotics and they graze on lush grass grown without the use of pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilizer. The Romeldale is categorized as "critically endangered" by the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy. Romeldale wool is exceptional and favored amongst handspinners for its next to skin softness. This rare fiber is featured in the Fleece and Fiber Source Book.
This listing is for a 4 ounce braid of a beautiful Romeldale roving from our white ewe, Betty White. It is a beautiful, clean white with super long staple length, excellent crimp, softness, and elasticity. This wool is very fine and comparable to a Superfine Merino. Once spun, the yarn would be suitable for next to skin garments such as sweaters, hats, scarves, and socks.
This roving has been washed, picked through by hand to try to remove foreign matter and debris picked up in the field, and processed to a lovely roving. It is stored in a smoke-free environment. It is ready for you to dye, spin, or felt! Please note that this roving may have small bits of vegetative matter in it that is easily picked out during spinning. I skirt all my fleeces very heavily and hand-pick out any foreign material, but because our processing methods are chemical- and bleach-free (in order to protect delicate fiber), some small bits may be left behind
