Holy Basil Seed - HEIRLOOM
Holy Basil (Ocimum tenuiflorum) is an aromatic herb native to India. Holy Basil has been used for centuries, both medicinally and culinary, and also in religious ceremonies in the East. This herb is also known as tulsi, and is the ingredient in the Asian tea of the same name.
Holy Basil makes a great addition to any dishes, and is especially complementary in many Thai dishes.
In Ayurvedic medicine, Holy Basil is used as a tea or a tincture. Among its many medicinal uses are lowering cholesterol, as an immune booster, and lowering blood glucose levels NOTE: These claims have not been substantiated by the FDA and are not intended as medical advice
As will all basils and other members of the mint family, Holy Basil is very easy to grow from seed.
Direct sow in your garden after all danger of frost is past. I plant in clumps for a fuller, more natural looking plant. Basils liken full sun and well drained, amended soil, but will also do well in partial shade. These can also be grown indoors in a container as a kitchen herb plant, on a sunny windowsill or counter.
Pick fresh leaves as long as the plant lasts. The best, tenderest leaves are usually obtained before the plant goes to flower.
SAVE YOUR OWN SEED: Allow the flowers to set seed and dry completely on the stem. After completely dry remove seeds and store in a cool dry place.
The plants which produced this seed were Peacefully HomeGrown in USDA Zone 7b, for 2014 gardening season. One pack = min 50 fresh seed
