Certified Organic Merino Wool Roving, Oatmeal
Phoenix Farm has expanded its wool inventory by reaching out to other family farms for natural and organic fibers! The wool in this listing comes from a certified organic farm that includes a small flock of sheep that help keep their orchards mowed and fertilized (last photo). Their sheep include white and natural colored merino, rambouillet, lincoln, romanov, and suffolk sheep. Their soft, organic fleeces are sheared each Spring and processed at Green Mountain Spinnery, a fiber mill that utilizes only organic processes -- no chemical detergents, no bleach, no synthetic additives. Just clean, natural, organic wool.
This listing is for a 4-ounce braid of gorgeous, soft, merino blend wool roving. It is a beautiful natural oatmeal color with excellent crimp, softness, and sheen. The color comes from a combination of white and the lightest fawn brown -- they combine together in a swirl and make a lovely fisherman white. This roving spins up beautifully for all weights of yarn! This wool takes dye easily and the two-tone color allows for interesting color combos and heathered hues!
* Please keep in mind that these animals are pasture raised and are not covered. I do heavily skirt the fleeces to remove second cuts, debris, and soiled fiber. However, some minor amounts of small VM may make it through, but are easily picked out during spinning. Because our processing methods are chemical- and bleach-free (in order to protect delicate fiber), some small bits may be left behind.
