Tamarind is best described as sweet and sour in taste, and is high in acid, sugar, B vitamins and calcium.
The fruit sometimes called a pod, 3 to 6 inches in length, with a hard, brown shell. The fruit has a fleshy, acidulous pulp. It matures when the flesh is coloured brown or reddish-brown. It is used in candies, refreshing drinks, bbq sauces, and many more culinary uses and medicinal purposes.
Tamarind is a long-lived, medium-growth, bushy tree with fern-like leaves which reaches a height of 40+ feet. High drought and salt air resistant. A Beautiful shade tree also. Young trees are very susceptible to frost, but mature trees will withstand brief periods of 28 F without serious injury.
