St. John's Wort Seed - Medicinal
St. John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum) is a perennial herb indigenous to Europe, which has naturalized in parts of the United States.
This plant stands erect, and can grow to 3 foot high. It is a very attractive foliage plant, with small leaves. It makes a wonderful ground cover, specimen plant, or border plant.
When in bloom it is covered with small bright yellow flowers, which are the part traditionally used medicinally. (Note: Medicinal use of this plant has not been substantiated by the FDA, and all information I am providing is for educational purposes only.)
St. John's Wort has traditionally been used as an herbal treatment for depression.
Growing St John's Wort from seed is very easy: Start seed indoors or in the greenhouse 6-8 weeks before last frost date for your season. After all danger of frost has passed, transplant the seedling(s) to their permanent home - plenty of full sun, in rich well drained soil.
St.John's wort will tolerate dry, but not drought conditions. St. John's wort will spread by reseeding itself and by spreading rhizomes.
Each packet contains at least 50 fresh, organically produced seed for the 2013 growing season.
