Thyme, Fresh-dried, Naturally Grown
Thyme is a perennial member of the mint family and is used in soups, stews, lamb, poultry, stuffing, beef, breads, butters, vinegars, cheeses, honey & tea. It's also a great seasoning for vegetables.
A great tea is made with 3 parts thyme & 1 part each rosemary & spearmint. Use 1 tsp. of this mix to 1 cup water. Let steep for 10 minutes & serve hot. Can be sweetened if you like, with honey or stevia leaf.
Thyme has been used as a folk medicine to treat a number of maladies including asthma, arteriosclerosis, colic, bronchitis, coughs, diarrhea and rheumatism, as well as to promote perspiration. Thyme contains Thymol, which can be found in mouthwashes, toothpastes and body powders. Thymol is effective against bacteria & fungus which makes it a good topical remedy for athelete's foot, ringworm, lice, thrush, bug bites, warts, mouth sores and cuts. A salve made with lemon balm and thyme was an old cure for shingles. Thyme can be chewed fresh for sore throats and for bad breath. Another healing element which is in Thyme is methylchavicol, which will topically sooth sore, cramped muscles. Thyme has been added to bath products and muscle creams. Soaking in it can help an aching back.
