Tarragon, Fresh-dried & Naturally Grown
This is a subtly licorice-flavored herb with slender, pointy dark green leaves and used in many French recipes. Tarragon is commonly used in sauces, for stuffing and in dressings. It can also be used to infuse vinegars and oils. It goes well with chicken, fish, and vegetable dishes and is used in making bearnaise sauce.
Tarragon has also been used a a medicinal herb as a digestive aid, a mild sedative, as a heart disease prevention aid and to treat toothaches because of it can numb the mouth. It also promotes the production of bile by the liver, which aids in digestion and helps to speed the process of eliminating toxic waste in the body, relieving stomach cramps and promoting the appetite. Tarragon can be made into a tea and drunk to aid in this process.
The main components of tarragon are estragole and ocimene. These, along with tannins, bitters, terpenes, flavonoids and coumarin, give it the healing properties for the liver and stomach. The tea can be used to promote menstruation, to fight fatigue and for calming the nerves. Tarragon can also be used in the place of salt for people with high blood pressure.
