White Sage Seed

(Salvia apiana LAMIACEAE)

Native to the mountains of southern California, this woody perennial with greenish-grey leaves is used by Native Americans for ceremonial and medicinal purposes. Has large flowers, averaging 3/4" long, white, sometimes spotted with lavender. Because it may not bloom every year, the seed is sometimes in short supply. Makes a nice ornamental shrub in southern dry regions, and a tender perennial in the North. Very aromatic and good for smudging. Excellent honey plant. Medicinal: For spiritual purification. Also astringent, and anti-bacterial. Useful for colds.
