As there has been renewed interest in biofuels we started growing sugar cane for schools and ornamental horticulturists both. We send 4 sections, about a foot long each. Plant in photo is Variety Thickset - a made up name but it originated in Cuban years ago. The plant is about 6 months old.
To Plant Sugar Cane:
Cane is laid down lengthwise in a shallow trench and covered with dirt, watered lightly to almost nil until sprouts emerge then water normally. there is plenty of internet info on the subject!
Variety "Thickset"
Vigorous shoot builder, will fill up a small space in months. Thickest canes.
Customers are responsible for finding out if a plant is appropriate for their climate.
Variety "Varigated"
A smaller version, with a lighter leaf with a pinstripe so it appears "varigated". A better accent plant for small yards.
