The 4-4 1/2 ft. well branched plants produce very showy, 5-8 " flowers. Make a nice cut flower.
Flower size can change significantly based on temperature.
Sunflowers grow very well with mild, organic fertilizers and they have few insect pests, so seldom need to be sprayed.
For giant- sized heads, space the plants at least three or four feet apart, but for production of seeds, space them more closely. A light loam is preferable to a heavy, wet soil.
Sunflowers can be harvested as soon as the backs of the seed heads are brown and dry.
