In the summer of 2003, I made the decision to purchase Shetland Sheep after researching several different breeds and talking to knowledgeable persons about sheep. The Shetland fit the profile I was looking for: gentle, quiet, low maintenance, easy lambing, high quality wool, and easily fattened on grass and forbes alone. Their small stature made them easier for me to handle as well. The flock of Shetlands are relatively maintenance free. This is a closed flock and are extremely healthy. The ewes wean their own lambs, just as they would in the wild, so there is no human-induced stress from premature weaning.
The wool sold from the animals is wonderfully soft and has a variety of natural colors. It is available in roving, batting, and as finished products.
Shetland wool, hand woven heirloom blankets, 100% wool and wool blend socks, batting, roving, yarn, ruanas, throws, scarves, and shawls.
