Russian Tarragon (Artemisia dracunculus) is an aromatic perennial herb, which is very easy to grow from seed. It has the growth habit of a shrub, and can be incorporated into your garden or landscape as such.
This plant is considered a native, and is widely distributed thoughout most of the Midwestern & Western states, and parts of Canada.
Tarragon is very hardy, and will tolerate pretty harsh conditions. It is native to the US, in the Plains states the Western states. Tarragon can be direct sown in the garden after danger of frost has passed. It can also be grown in containers, tho I would not recommend it for a house plant.
Tarragon can growup to 5' tall; it enjoys full sun and well drained soil. It is a very attractive plant. It will require staking to take full advantage of its beauty. Makes a wonderful edging or background plant.
Culinary Uses: Tarragon has a sweet, anise-like flavor, and can be used in a variety of foods. Used fresh it will add a minty, licorice-like flavor. One popular use of tarragon is in making flavored vinegars and oils. A little tarragon will go a long way, as this is one of the stronger herbs and makes it's presence known in recipes.
