Terra Lost Acres is my little piece of serenity nestled in the farmlands of Franklin County, Kansas.
The purpose of Terra Lost Acres is the continuation of our past heritage in the form of endangered livestock breeds and working knowledge of the crafts that provide life's basic necessities.
To this end, I currently raise American heritage breed Wyandotte chickens, and historic American breed rabbits - American Chinchilla and Silver Fox. I firmly believe in utilizing breeds of livestock that are at a minimum dual purpose. The chickens supply eggs, meat and feathers. The rabbit breeds I have chosen have commercial (or meat) bodies and fur and/or fiber for spinning.
Although not certified organic, I prefer a simple holistic stewardship manner in which to manage my farm. I supply basic feed without hormones or antibiotics for my stock. I use my chicken and rabbit manure for compost in my garden, which contains heirloom vegetables where possible. I also avoid pesticides unless absolutely necessary.
I am a seamstress, spinner, knitter, crocheter and weaver and share my passion for fiber through demonstrations, supplies, fiber preparation and instruction.
