The Burr Oak Center for Durable Culture

The Burr Oak Center for Durable Culture (BOC) is an intentional community dedicated to the education of the community-at-large on permaculture, sustainable living and alternative energy. Located in western Iowa's beautiful Loess hills, BOC is committed to the philosophy of community building and sustainable development through peace and green living. As an off-shoot of TRACES, a World War II history educational organization, BOC takes its responsibility to educate to the next level, learning from the mistakes of the past to guide our future. Recurring internship, resident educator and support staff positions are available to interested parties. Anyone interested in coming to tour, visit and/or stay should feel free to contact us as well, we'd love to have you, and our garden and animals would welcome your care! This summer we will have produce and free-range meat available. Call us at 712.353.6661 or email us to join efforts for a sustainable future!

Informed by lessons of the past, we boldly face present crises as we build more humane, nature-sustaining lives, as individuals and as enduring communities. To succeed, we tap deeper, more fulfilling values and craft new narratives through which to see ourselves and the world. We welcome your interest and connection.
