The Discovery Garden - a local, organic, sharing, community garden

The Discovery Garden is located within LaVista Park by a 60 acre Forest Legacy and restored prairie site. The 1 acre garden is leased from Godfrey Parks & Recreation Dept. and operated by the Community Cultivators. The Community Cultivators opened the garden in 2001 and and gained official NPO status in 2002.

The success of the garden depends upon interaction with our community. We offer garden space for individuals and families, field trips, tours, activity booths at local events, workshops and one-on-one education. The interactive learning experience covers a wide range of topics; the importance of soil quality, the hydrologic cycle, water quality, our watershed, native flora & fauna, invasives, composting, pollinators, pests & their predators, installation techniques for various types of gardens and the areas natural history. We also donate at least 10% of our harvest to the local food pantry(s).
