A Farmers' Market CSA share is a bit different from a traditional CSA share. The support of our CSA members enables us to keep the farm running year after year by providing money to order seeds and potting soil, buy supplies, heat the greenhouse, and pay our fabulous crew through the early spring when we start all our crops for the season.

A Farmers' Market CSA share offers members a lot more flexibility than a traditional CSA share. Our members come to any of our Farmers' Markets and select whatever they like from our stand. Members take only the items they want and can choose to take as much as they want of anything. Members can pick up at their convenience.

Over the course of the year, we generally have a wide range of vegetables, fruit (usually berries and apples), seedlings, and cut flowers. In the spring we have fresh greens, lots of seedlings for your gardens, fresh onions and more. In the summer we have all the classic summer vegetables (except for sweet corn), our famous garlic and tomatoes, berries from our friend farms, flowers and more. In the fall we have warm weather crops like tomatoes for as long as possible, leafy greens, fall crops like broccoli and cauliflower, tons of garlic, root crops, winter squash and apples from the UMASS Cold Spring Orchard. In winter we have lots of root crops, winter squash, onions and garlic, and greens for as long as we can. For a sense of seasonal availability, look back at our Facebook market posts to see what we brought to each market.

Members select the produce they would like, we tally up the value, and we deduct it from the credit in the member's account. CSA members have total free choice, they can spend the value of their share however they want. Hate cabbage? Skip it! Want nothing but tomatoes this week? Go for it!

Members pick up as often or infrequently as they like, and don't have to plan ahead! They can come to market once a week, three times a week, or only once during the whole season. Members don't need to notify us of their plans, they just come when it suits them. This means members can easily go on vacation. They aren't locked in to picking up their share each week. Members can miss a week, a month, or half the season without losing money.

Our Farmers' Market CSA program is similar to Farm Bucks offered by other farms, but in our CSA we keep track of everything - members don't have to hold on to "Farm Money" all season.

Members can pick up at any or all of the following markets. Roslindale Village - summer/fall and winter market JP Egleston Square - summer/fall and winter market Dedham Square -summer/fall market Needham Center - summer/fall market Lowell Mill #5 - winter market Dorchester - winter market Any special events we attend

How it works: Members sign up at one of seven membership levels. We create a personal farm account for them. For members who sign up and pay in December, January, February or March, we add a 15% bump in credit to each farm account. For signups between April and November, we add a 10% bump in credit. (We need and appreciate the support in the winter and early spring!!!) If someone signs up at the $350 level from December through March, we put a $402.50 credit in their account. Each time a member picks up, we deduct the total of their selection from the credit in their account.

Members can use their CSA from the time they sign up at the beginning of the year (winter markets run through the end of March) through New Years' Eve. We attend at least one market a week for 48 weeks of the year!!!

Please note that not all markets are open for the full 48 weeks. If you choose to attend only 1 or 2 markets that run for fewer weeks, or if you anticipate picking up infrequently, please adjust your membership level accordingly. Any credit left in CSA accounts on January 1st 2016 will be donated (in produce) to hunger relief organizations. Beginning this year we are changing our CSA program to run for a calendar year because the market season doesn't really end anymore.

We offer 7 sizes of our Farmers' Market shares:

$150 - A $150 deposit in December through March results in a 15% bump for an account credit of $172.50. This averages about $3.50 per week over a 48 week season. (Purchasing a share, or adding more credit to a share, from April through November results in a 10% bump.)

$250 - A $250 deposit in December through March results in a 15% bump for an account credit of $287.50. This averages about $6 per week over a 48 week season. (Purchasing a share, or adding more credit to a share, from April through November results in a 10% bump.)

$350 - A $350 deposit in December through March results in a 15% bump for an account credit of $402.50. This averages about $8 per week over a 48 week season. (Purchasing a share, or adding more credit to a share, from April through November results in a 10% bump.)

$450 - A $450 deposit in December through March results in a 15% bump for an account credit of $517.50. This averages about $11 per week over a 48 week season. (Purchasing a share, or adding more credit to a share, from April through November results in a 10% bump.)

$550 - A $550 deposit in December through March results in a 15% bump for an account credit of $632.50. This averages about $13 per week over a 48 week season. (Purchasing a share, or adding more credit to a share, from April through November results in a 10% bump.)

$650 - A $650 deposit in December through March results in a 15% bump for an account credit of $747.50. This averages about $15.50 per week over a 48 week season. (Purchasing a share, or adding more credit to a share, from April through November results in a 10% bump.)

$750 - A $750 deposit in December through March results in a 15% bump for an account credit of $862.50. This averages about $18 per week over a 48 week season. (Purchasing a share, or adding more credit to a share, from April through November results in a 10% bump.)

We offer signup on a first come first served basis.

What you can get with your CSA share: We grow a huge range of produce on our 6 1/2 acres of garden sites. We often tell people that we grow pretty much every vegetable that can be grown in New England, except for sweet corn. We also partner with our local farmer friends, bringing their extra produce to market at times. This lets us focus on growing the items that are best suited to our gardens, but to still offer a wide selection of produce. It's also a nice way to help our friends sell their excess produce. All the vegetable growers we work with grow naturally (some certified organic, some not certified but using the same growing practices). The fruit growers we work with use Integrated Pest Management (low spray - only if absolutely needed).

Important points: Please note - you can only use your CSA account at The Neighborhood Farm's stand at the farmers' markets, not at other vendors.

Any credit remaining in members' accounts at the end of the calendar year will be donated (in produce) to a hunger relief organization. We don't carry over credit to the next year. However, we will do everything in our power to help members use up their credit before the year ends.

Because we work with other farms, we are usually able to offer a fairly wide selection of produce. However, in a bad season, all local farms may be struggling to grow enough food. Thus availability and selection change from year to year. We'll do our best to have as much food as possible, but we are a small farm (and so are our friend farms). We don't bring in vegetables from far away or from farms that use growing practices which differ from ours, and we don't bring in fruit from farms that use unsustainable growing practices.
