I have a small garden where I grow heritage tomatoes and a few other things which I sell at the local farmer's market to help out with income and keep my sanity.
I use no commercial chemicals to do this. Since I eat from it daily, I cannot use toxic things on it. It is fertilized with horse manure compost. I also have horse manure for sale, by the bag or truck load. It is not composted, but has been started.
I put myself through college with the proceeds from a vegetable stand, and come from a family which made its living from plant and produce sales. My father taught at Cornell University; my brother still owns and operates Early Bird Farms in Ithaca, N.Y.
