Katchkie Farm is a year-round organic farming operation owned by the NYC-based catering company, Great Performances. An industry first, Katchkie Farm represents a commitment to celebrating local flavors and an investment in sustainable agriculture and good earth practices. Katchkie, which sits on 60 acres in Columbia County, NY, yielded its first harvest in 2007.
Katchkie supplies Great Performances with fresh produce for special events, as well as three farmers' markets throughout New York and GP's six cafes. It is the source for a line of artisanal products including the acclaimed Katchkie Ketchup, Thunder Pickles, and Katchkie Farm Bob-A-Que Sauce. As a unique resource to GP, the Farm inspired GP's 100 Mile Menu for which all principal ingredients are sourced from within a 100-mile radius of New York City.
In addition to the traditional farm, Katchkie also houses The Sylvia Center, an educational nonprofit that introduces children to the pleasures and benefits of healthy, sustainable food through farm visits and cooking workshops. The Sylvia Center (TSC) aims to address issues in children├?┬ó├»┬┐┬Ż?├»┬┐┬Ż?s health by increasing access to the experiences of growing food and transforming it into a healthy meal. We inspire young people to discover good nutrition through thoughtful, delicious experiences with healthful, seasonal fruits and vegetables, on the farm and in the kitchen. We strive to increase access to direct experiences through which children come to understand what food is, how it is grown, and, perhaps most important, that they themselves can learn and choose to make good food for their own bodies. The Sylvia Center offers a set of food literacy programs that bolsters children├?┬ó├»┬┐┬Ż?├»┬┐┬Ż?s and families├?┬ó├»┬┐┬Ż?├»┬┐┬Ż? knowledge about agriculture, food, nutrition, and the environment.
