Thomas Vezina is well known for his steaks and mouthwatering soups, as well as his much requested and missed pecan crusted chicken coated with Pecan Valley pecans and Texas honey butter sauce. Since opening the restaurant almost five years ago, owners Mary & David Stanley had long been frustrated in their attempts to procure locally produced beef, lamb and venison. It seemed illogical to them to see these animals in the fields each day and still be forced to purchase them from as far away as New Zealand. It has taken a lot of dedication to grow connections with local producers. Dinner - Friday and Saturday 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm by reservation.

Cuisine is new American and changes with the seasons. Drinks and wines are available from The Turtle Enoteca next door. Patio dining during good weather. Handicapped accessible.

Located across the street from City Hall in historic Uptown Brownwood.

  • Lunch at the Turtle features soups salads and a variety of sandwiches on savory house made breads. We buy our hamburger and eggs locally from Novella Newman's Ranch, cheeses from Texas dairies, and during market season our vegetables come from our farmers market and CSA Windy Hill Organics. Much of our meat is butchered in Cross Plains and grown by local ranchers.

    Dinner can be casual or formally coursed. We serve dinner by reservation on Friday and Saturday evenings featuring live soft jazz.
