Turtle Run

Turtle Run is a small organic family farm in historic Saxapahaw NC. Our specialties include a delicious small purple plum tomato that we call "Little Cherokee" . This tomato was developed here at our farm quite by accident after we noticed a biologic sport hanging from an otherwise normal looking Sungold tomato plant. We then crossed the sport with an heirloom variety called Cherokee Purple. After 5 years the strain seems to have stabilized and can replicate itself year after year without crossing.

Turtle Run is also one of the very few farms in the area using all "veganic" (vegetable based fertilizer) methods which uses no animal inputs. We are also now certified "naturally grown" using organic methods without the questionable Federal loopholes. (more...)
