Owner Jane Desotelle started collecting wild herbs for teas in the mid-1970's from the clean remote area of the Adirondack region of New York State. After giving them away for a few years Underwood Herbs was formed. From her solar powered 1860's one room schoolhouse on an unpaved little used road, Jane propagates and ethically collects wild plants for naturally caffeine free herb teas, wild catnip toys, fresh balsam wreaths, balsam pillows from recycled Christmas trees, plus more.

In 2007, Traditional Artists of Upstate New York named Jane Desotelle as a heritage award winner. Herbalism is an ancient art to be sure, but the award is also given for community work. Jane helped start the Adirondack Farmers' Market Cooperative, Inc. (more...)

Lectures using power point presentations on wild vegetables, teas, fruits, mushrooms, medicinal plants and more with her own photos can be scheduled. Jane also likes to take small groups out for a walk on the wild side identifying wild plants along the way while passing on her experience and knowledge on the uses of the plants.
