We are people of the earth, deeply committed to a sustainable and just world. Our praxis is the production of healthy food in cooperation with the ecosystem. We love good food, growing it, cooking it, eating it, sharing it. Through our CSA we can provide more people with quality seasonal food from land and farmers you know. We believe everyone should have food security: available, safe, accessible.
Webster Farm Organic engages members in good eating and natural connections with the land and seasons on Salad Days, twenty weekly deliveries of fresh produce.
We are in our 17th year, and despite the late spring, are now seeding and moving our greenhouse plants into the gardens. We do still have room for new members for this season, 2014. If you are interested in becoming a member, we can answer questions with a phone call to us, or by having you visit our website (listed below).
We serve members in the Twin Cities, St Cloud, Princeton, Milaca, and Foley regions.
You have the opportunity to taste a wide variety of salad ingredients grown sustainably and locally, delivered fresh weekly, that will entice you to the healthiest eating imaginable, and allow you to participate with us in the adventure of Community Supported Agriculture.
On Salad Days, you will encounter great variety and flavors in our freshly picked produce and lots of ideas for simple preparation. We grow heirloom vegetables, hundreds of varieties of them, to give moderate amounts each week of many selections, awakening your senses and pleasing your palate.
We have sized and priced our weekly bags of produce for fresh eating more than cooking and storage. One to two adults can easily use an entire bag. The diversity encourages eaters of all ages. The sign-up form allows you to specify favorites and challenges so you get more of what you know you like and still get to try the varieties we grow from a wide range of cultures. Seeing us each week you can let us know more about your household preferences. Of course, we also have some surprises for you.
Beginning the 3rd week in May, we pick, pack, and deliver your bag of produce to any of three Twin City locations, on Thursday evenings. Most members have a "regular" location, but you can meet us at any of them without special notice. We meet local members at the farm Fridays, between 5 and 7 pm. We also have meeting spots in Milaca and Princeton. Please call for details on these newer locations.
Because we use reusable cloth bags that are gentle on the produce and the planet, you simply trade an empty bag for a full one each week, pick up recipes and a newsletter that tells you more about your food and the farm this week, and have time for conversation. By advance arrangement, we offer a late drop site for when you cannot meet us. and the option to skip a week you are away and make it up when you return.
At Webster Farm Organic we take a holistic approach to the food web and the sustainability of all partners. We also commit to fun, creativity, and the enjoyment of the natural world, wonders we like to share. Members are invited to participate in the community life of the farm, to awaken the fields and wild creatures at Mayfest on May 17, and to tour the farm midsummer on Member Field Day. Any member may arrange to pick up at the farm any Friday evening between 5pm-7pm when we host local members.
Throughout the season we offer Earth Camp, a program of sustainable living skills, food preservation, herb talks, composting, rainwater systems, organic gardening and lawn care, and guided nature walks in the farm's woods, meadows, and wetlands, and other events, designed for adults, youth, and children. Pre-registration is required.
The fee for membership in 2014 is $495. We will accept members until the spaces are full, but it helps us to know who our members are as early as possible, even if you cannot pay in full at the time you sign up. We do, however, require half payment to hold your place, and payment in full by May 1.
Webster Farm Organic, established in 1980, is an 80 acre farm in Granite Ledge Township, Benton County, Minnesota. We have seven acres in vegetable production plus multiple greenhouses and high tunnels. The balance of the farm is woodland, meadow, creeks, and wetland.
We use the least invasive and disruptive practices, rainwater collection systems, passive solar, wild buffers and habitat preservation so that our fertility, pest and disease control are a result of natural balance. We have no farm animals and use no animal products in the fields. Our goal is long term health of the soil and environment while producing highly nutritious food for committed households. Our farm is women owned, and women operated.
